Maulid Adat Bayan

Bayan, in Lombok’s far north, is home to the island’s oldest mosque and to the Wetu Telu tradition – a distinctive local blend of Islam with older Sasak beliefs.

The Maulid celebration here looks unlike anywhere else in Indonesia: villagers in traditional dress, ceremonial food preparation, processions and rituals passed down for generations. It is a genuine community event rather than a tourist show, so visit respectfully and dress modestly.

Bayan sits near the Senaru trailhead, making it easy to combine with the Sendang Gile and Tiu Kelep waterfalls.
