The MotoGP Mandalika attendance record fell this weekend. Dorna’s figures, announced by Sports Minister Erick Thohir on Sunday, October 11, put the three-day crowd at 157,875. That’s comfortably above last year’s 140,324, and above the roughly 145,000 fans organizers had been aiming for. Hotels filled up, extra flights were added, and now there’s a question mark hanging over 2027.
The MotoGP Mandalika attendance record, day by day
Here are the numbers as reported by detikTravel, based on Dorna’s data. There were 39,510 fans on the pre-weekend day, 53,296 on Saturday and 65,069 on race day, the biggest single day of the event. Attendance at Mandalika has now grown every year: 102,801 in 2022, 102,929 in 2023, 121,252 in 2024 and 140,324 in 2025. By my own arithmetic from those totals, this year brought roughly 17,500 more fans than last year, a jump of about 12.5 percent, and around 54 percent more than in 2022.
On track, Marco Bezzecchi won for Aprilia, and detik reports it was the first time in MotoGP history that four bikes from one manufacturer filled the top four places. Marc Marquez finished sixth, and Jorge Martin moved into the championship lead by the narrowest of margins, 355 points to 353. Marquez had won Saturday’s sprint, and Raul Fernandez took second place in the race with Martin third, according to detik.
Hotels, flights and the money
Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana said hotel occupancy reached 100 percent in the Mandalika area and 90 percent in Central Lombok and Mataram. She also put the multiplier effect at about Rp5 trillion, but that’s an estimate, not an audited result. For context, a Bappenas study of the previous year’s race estimated a national economic impact of between Rp2.7 trillion and Rp4.7 trillion. The minister added that her ministry will work with the Ministry of Youth and Sports to develop sports tourism and improve how international events are hosted.
Senggigi told a more mixed story. Bali Post reported on October 9 that hotel bookings in the area were up by as much as 95 percent, with some hotels full, others at 80 to 90 percent, and many smaller hotels still under 60 percent. The Senggigi Hotel Association chair, I Ketut M. Jaya Kusuma, called the race an extraordinary magnet for tourists but said it was too early to tell how many guests came for the race and how many simply came on holiday. For transparency, he is also the general manager of Holiday Resort Lombok, the resort this site is affiliated with.
One thing stands out when you line the figures up. In mid-September, SUARANTB reported Mataram hotels at only about 40 percent, and the minister’s post-race figure for Mataram and Central Lombok was 90 percent. The two numbers aren’t measured the same way, so it’s only my reading, but it suggests last-minute bookings did most of the filling in the final weeks.
Getting everyone there took some doing. Lombok’s airport reported 66 extra flights beyond its normal schedule, and by October 7 all the riders had arrived, along with 428 tons of cargo carried on five dedicated cargo flights, according to Ekbis NTB.
What happens to MotoGP in Lombok next
Dorna’s Deputy CEO, Carlos Ezpeleta, said at a press conference on October 9 that Dorna has a five-plus-five-year agreement with the Indonesian government and plans to stay at least until 2031, with a new race format coming in 2027. What I haven’t seen is the Indonesian government confirming 2027 itself. Several Indonesian outlets describe the decision as waiting on President Prabowo, so as far as I can tell a 2027 race isn’t officially settled yet.
If you’re already thinking about next year, our MotoGP Mandalika dates guide explains how the weekend works, and it’s wise to hold off on anything non-refundable until the date is official. Before that, the circuit still has the Mandalika Racing Series on November 6 to 8, and our Lombok events calendar lists what else is confirmed through December.
For the hotel side of the story before the race, see our piece on MotoGP Mandalika hotel occupancy. And if you’re staying on after the race for the rest of the island, somewhere to unwind by the sea on the Mangsit side of Senggigi makes a calm contrast to a circuit weekend.
